Dome’s S102 is fiendishly clever, and according to accounts from British engineers in Japan fiendishly fast “I could see this getting in amongst the diesels during qualifying, they are going to cause an upset. They have put so much time and effort into the cars aero its amazing”. The car features Domes own in house dampers, the proven Judd GV engine and lots of smaller but no less clever design features. Any question marks over Dome’s ability to run a racing team should be shelved; this is the same team that won Super GT last year as the Honda works team.

Whilst aesthetics are not normally something we consider on Racecar Engineering, we have to concede that this is one of the best looking racing Sportscars we have ever seen. Dome’s Hiroshi Yuchi says of the cars looks “We know it is beautiful but the really beautiful thing for us would be a fast laptime” sadly the S102 failed to show what it could really do on test day, the car has suffered from a number of small problems, only managing to set the 11th fastest time in class at 3m38.773 however much faster times can be expected in qualifying.

The wet grimy conditions at Le Mans allow us to see a little more of the S102’s aerodynamic performance in suprising detail, the streaks of dirt on the cars virginal white bodywork show the airflow very well.
